I chose this to recreate because I wanted to make it less faint. I decided to change the medium from pencil to watercolor and acrylic paint. Watercolors are used in the background due to its change in tints as it dries, creating an appearance of movement in the air. Acrylics were chosen to create a defined second layer to the piece, giving the land masses and octopus a defined shape.
When I drew the first version of this piece, I used what was easiest. Colored pencils, a #2 pencil, and a sharpie. I used paints to create the second because I knew the effects of the paint on the paper. In this semester, I’ve learned a little bit better how to choose between materials when preparing to make an art piece, which results in better and more meaningful art (though I like both here.)

I know a lot of people that relate to the comic above and that’s probably a bad thing, but it makes this piece much more relevant. This whole website contains relatable images by the comic artists of buzzfeed. These and other artists record human experiences by creating a scene of an event and adding emotion. In this case, it’s done by making an understandable character, adding well-used facial expressions, and symbolizing anxiety as a germ.
I express humanity in art by showing relations between two groups of people in a piece I don’t have at the moment, as well as by showing the feeling of peace in the face of wind in a piece I do have.
As I wrote before, this is a figure from a dream that captivated me and her expression captures a calm, away-from-everything look. I’m usually either spaced out and calm or anxious, and that’s why I chose it. It expresses me.
